Your Day-To-Day Tasks

Respond to day-to-day contacts. Use Email, letters, and phone calls to respond to people you’ve been in touch with over the past week and month. You must always remember that donations come from the hands of other people.
Responsible for planning and managing upcoming events, which involves developing detailed event plans, coordinating logistics, nurturing vendor relationships, overseeing schedules, and ensuring flawless execution from inception to completion.
Build awareness about our mission. Leverage your social media, website, and email to build visibility. I frequently say that you must have people’s attention and trust before they will say ‘yes’ to a donation request. Keep spreading the message of your work.
Ask for donations. Contact or meet up with potential donors to raise money for our organization.
Follow-up with outstanding decisions. Checking back with the people you’ve spoken with about a donation is 90% of getting the donation. You have to follow-up.
Reach out to your assigned advisor as needed. Your advisor will support your work, either with general advice, helping you to develop new skills and initiatives or crisis management.

Where is my work location?
Some assignments may require you to travel. Most assignments are often at the comfort of your home. You are required to be on-site (at the chosen location of the event) on the day of the event. The location for the day of an event is usually in a hospital.

Who will I report to?
You will be assigned to an advisor. You are required to report on a weekly basis to your assigned advisor regarding the progress of any upcoming events.

1. Event Planning and Management Academy

Free Event Planning Courses: New students are eligible to take an event planning course for free through the Event Planning and Management Academy. It is perfect if you want to learn more about event planning, improve your skills, or get ahead in your job.

We were able to find other free event planning courses; however, they would give you only a few minutes or section of free access to their course and then they want you to pay to access the remaining portion. But that is not the case with their free course offer. As a student, you will have access to the same course curriculum and online training platform.

2. Subsidized Federal Direct Loan

It carries a fixed interest rate. The federal government pays the interest on the loan while you are at school and during your six month grace period after leaving school. Eligibility is based on need. Loans must be paid back.

3. Federal Student Aid

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is a form that students in the United States fill out annually to determine their eligibility for federal student financial aid, which includes grants, work-study opportunities, and loans. This aid is provided by the U.S. Department of Education to help students cover the costs of higher education, including tuition and fees, room and board, books, and other educational expenses. How many events can an event planner plan per year?
The average event planner plans event planners plan an average of five to nine events per year. These events can take anywhere from one week to an entire month to plan depending on the size.

How many hours does an event planner work?
Expect your hours to vary. Generally, you’ll be working from 9 to 5 — it may vary depending on your availability. But when there are big events coming up, you’ll probably be working round the clock to make sure everything comes together perfectly (yes, that includes weekends).

What skills do you need?
You must not only be organized, but capable of a calm and tactful command with friendly yet to-the-point authority during last-minute situations. Ideally you are a fully rounded character. You are numerate, strategic, have solid business sense and creative flair. You will need to have excellent communication skills and be passionate in our mission. You will need to be able to network, since success in the role depends heavily on being able to forge positive relationships with supporters. Another area of your role will be to raise awareness of the charity's work, aims and goals. You must also be able to work independently and be a team player.

Although your interpersonal skills and personal qualities are vital to your success, it is important for you to have formal training in event planning with a concentration in fundraising events. Undertaking these courses will enable you to examine different methods of raising money and resources. You'll also learn new and innovative ways of approaching work and network.

How many fundraisers can I expect to service a year?
The total number of events that a planner organizes each year will vary depending on the type of events a planner takes on as some are more elaborate than others. The required planning time to successfully plan one med-size event is approximately 80 hours.
